Please note
that the ISO 9001:2008 is a latest version of the
standard for general Quality Management System. Some of the
requirements in ISO 9001:2008 include
-
a set of
procedures that cover all key processes in the business;
-
monitoring processes to ensure they are effective;
-
keeping
adequate records;
-
checking
output for defects, with appropriate and corrective action
where necessary;
-
regularly
reviewing individual processes and the quality system
itself for effectiveness; and
-
facilitating continual improvement
A company
or organization that has been independently audited and
certified to be in conformance with ISO 9001 may publicly
state that it is "ISO 9001 certified" or "ISO 9001
registered." The ISO 9001 certifies that consistent business
processes are being applied in the organization. Indeed,
some companies enter the ISO 9001 certification as a
marketing tool.
Although
the standards originated in manufacturing, they are now
employed across a wide range of other types of
organizations. A "product", in ISO vocabulary, can mean a
physical object, or services, or software. In fact,
according to ISO in 2004, "service sectors now account by
far for the highest number of ISO 9001:2008 certificates -
about 31% of the total."
Besides, ISO 9001:2008
specifies requirements for a quality management system where
an organization
- needs to demonstrate its
ability to consistently provide product that meets
customer and applicable regulatory requirements, and
-
aims to
enhance customer satisfaction through the effective
application of the system, including processes for
continual improvement of the system and the assurance of
conformity to customer and applicable regulatory
requirements.
All
requirements of this International Standard are generic and
are intended to be applicable to all organizations,
regardless of type, size and product provided.
Where any
requirement's of this International Standard cannot be
applied due to the nature of an organization and its
product, this can be considered for exclusion.
Where
exclusions are made, claims of conformity to this
International Standard are not acceptable unless these
exclusions are limited to requirements within clause 7, and
such exclusions do not affect the organization's ability, or
responsibility, to provide product that meets customer and
applicable regulatory requirements.
